HOT NEW LABEL : PRETTY GREEN
Celebrities and their fashion labels = my biggest pet hate of the moment! Putting your name on t-shirt surely doesn’t make you a designer? Nor does it mean that the product is any good or instantly classed as ‘high-end’? What the hell is going on?! Well, imagine my horror when back in spring 2009 I heard that Liam Gallagher of Oasis was releasing a collection from his new fashion label Pretty Green. Shock and disappointment is all I felt on the matter. Had the straight talking front man from arguably the best British band EVER sold himself out? Fast forward to just the 3rd collection from Pretty Green and to this wonderful quote from the man himself “Clothes and music are my passion. I’m not here to rip anyone off and I’m not doing it for the money either. I’m doing it cuz there’s a lack of stuff out there of the things I would wear” (Liam Gallagher 2009) and I can confirm that Liam Gallagher has FAR from sold himself out. Id even go as far to say that lovable Mancunian scamp has actually managed to pull it off in some style… phew!
Now, if I’m honest I always saw anything either of the Gallagher brothers putting their hand to going down very well in the UK, but I had no idea how well Pretty Green would go down on a global scale. Having first only been available to buy online, limited edition designs were selling out within hours. Personally I have always admired Gallagher’s style. Even now at the ripe old age of 37, he remains trendy throughout the seasons but is also fully aware of what looks good and what looks not so good on the middle aged man and he has incorporated this into Pretty Green perfectly. Naturally (and very wisely) sticking to what he does best, classic British clothing mixed with subtle prints and mod-like accessories, I see Pretty Green appealing to ALL age ranges and becoming a real name within its market.
The Labels
Pretty Green has been divided into 2 labels, the black and the green. This is how Pretty Green themselves describe each collection…
The Green Label
“Pretty Green’s Green Label collection for Spring/Summer ‘10 is a casual collection that reflects Liam’s progressive design influence while it’s classic and relaxed styling makes it appealing to men of all ages.
